A Message to Residents on COVID-19
Dear Village Residents,
The Village Board and the Nissequogue Fire Department are working together to make sure our emergency operations continue to serve all of you and protect the safety of the village residents and well-being of our members.
We are breaking new ground with this health crisis and this event is ever-changing. We receive new information almost daily from the Suffolk County Office of Fire and Rescue. Our response plan is updated and revised according to the information we receive to best serve you.
9-1-1 dispatchers will be screening medical calls to help identify possible COVID-19 patients. Please assist them by being able to answer the following questions:
- Are you or anyone in your house currently under quarantine or observation for COVID-19?
- Do you or anyone in your house have a fever and or a cough?
- Do you or anyone in your house have a new onset of shortness of breath?
- Do you or anyone in your house currently have pneumonia?
If you call 9-1-1 be prepared to expect our EMT to be wearing personal protective equipment consisting of gowns, masks, googles, and gloves. We don’t want to alarm you, we are just doing our part to prevent the spread of this virus.
If the dispatcher was not able to get the information listed above, we will be asking the same questions again. This is for your protection and ours. We will only be transporting the patient to the hospital, family members and friends will have to check with the hospital to determine if they can visit the patient. The only exception will be if the patient is a minor; then a single legal guardian will be allowed to accompany the minor to the hospital.
Please help by following all CDC recommendations, wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Soap and water are your best bet for not spreading the virus to others or around your home.
If possible, clean all “high-touch” surfaces every day, especially your cell phone! Use gloves to clean all high touch surfaces including counters, tabletops, doorknobs, bathroom fixtures, toilets, keyboards, tablets, and bedside tables. Use a household cleaning spray or wipe, according to the label instructions. Making sure you have good ventilation when using any cleaning product.
Most importantly, keep up to date on the factual information that can be found on the CDC’s website (www.cdc.gov/coronavirus), the NYS Department of Health website https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/home and the Suffolk County Department of Health website https://suffolkcountyny.gov/Departments/Health-Services/Health-Bulletins/Novel-Coronavirus.
This is a community effort, check on your neighbors, help when you can and we will all get through this challenging time together.
